Anello Backpack Review
Anello Product Line - Backpacks, Diaper Bags, and Duffel Bags
Anello has a diverse product line across the handbag and backpack category. They offer men’s and women’s backpacks along with handbags geared explicitly towards females.
Many of their backpacks are unisex and come in a variety of materials, including canvas, nylon, and leather. You’ll find different sizes in each that offer you various storage capacities.
There’s no shortage of designs with varying color schemes and embroidery that loosely resembles SUPREME. Models include travel backpacks, diaper bags, carry-on/trolley models, rucksacks, and more.
Features and Benefits
For all of the points listed below, these apply to all of Anello’s bags. While specific models may have additional features (i.e., a water bottle holder), all models will have, at minimum, these features.

Mini vs. Large
Anello offers their bags and backpacks in two distinct sizes, Mini and Regular. The ‘regular’ size is referred to as ‘large’ in some instances. The ‘mini’ size is sometimes referred to as ‘small.’ Most notably, the larger size has a greater width and height, offering a larger storage capacity.
If you have a larger laptop, greater than 13”, you will want to opt for the ‘regular’ size. Those with laptops smaller than 13” will be okay with the mini.
Multi-Functional (backpack, diaper bag, etc.)
The design on most of their bags is multi-functional, meaning you can use them for whatever you want. Some buyers use them for school, while others use them as a stylish diaper bag.
Many travelers find that the ‘mini’ size is perfect for taking on an airplane as it passes TSA regulations for a ‘personal item’ and has just enough space for carry-on items.
For models like the Boston Bag, these are better suited for carrying clothes and other essentials. Stick with a backpack if you need to bring your laptop, books, papers, and other items of that nature.
Strong Rivets, Stitching, and Hardware
The quality of an Anello backpack is what has made them so popular in foot-traffic-heavy cities like Tokyo and other metropolitan areas. Well sewn stitching, durable hardware, and high quality riveting have helped ensure these bags can withstand day-to-day use without trouble.
Minimalist Design (not flashy, won’t draw attention)
If you carry your phone, wallet, laptop, and other high-value items in your backpack, you want the least-flashy design. A bag that looks expensive is more likely to be stolen as it can be resold along with its contents.
Anello backpacks and bags have a very minimalistic, but tasteful design. The logo isn’t’ large and distracting. Instead, it’s placed in a bottom corner where it won’t draw attention.
Delayed Shipping Times (imported)
These bags are difficult to find in the United States, Canada, and anywhere outside of Asia, generally speaking. You can buy them used from sellers in the United States, but the best bet is to buy them directly from the company on a marketplace like Amazon.com.
Shipping times may be delayed, as these bags do not ship from a warehouse in the United States. Instead, they’re imported from Japan and may incur some additional tax for getting through customs. This amount is usually pretty small.
Larger Laptops May not Fit
For the ‘mini’ size bag, anything larger than a 13” laptop may be difficult to fit. For a 17” laptop, you may have trouble fitting that in the ‘regular’ size bag - this will vary from laptop to laptop.
Not Truly “Waterproof’ - Water-Resistant
‘Waterproof’ is a slightly misleading term here and may have been lost somewhere in translation from Japanese to English. None of their bags can go underwater, with the contents remaining dry.
They would be better advertised as ‘Water-Resistant’. Meaning, they’ll be fine in the rain for short periods and generally repel water.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where Can I buy an Anello Backpack in the USA?
You can find Anello backpacks and bags on sites like Amazon and eBay. It is recommended to see Anello’s storefront on Amazon, so you know you’re buying a genuine product.
You may also see bags under “Anero,” which appears to be under the same company.
How to Clean a Leather Anello Bag?
To clean an Anello backpack, simply mix a solution of warm water and a small amount of dish soap. Using a sponge or paper towel, dampen the sponge in the solution, wring out, and then gently scrub the affected area on the bag.
Do not use any harsh chemicals like bleach or Ammonia. The DIY Network has additional tips on cleaning.
How to Clean a Nylon Anello Backpack?
See the steps above for cleaning a leather bag. The process is the same; however, you can use something like a toothbrush and laundry detergent in place of a sponge and dish soap. Create a simple solution of warm water and detergent, then gently scrub the affected area.
How Do I Spot a Fake Anello Bag?
With excellent brand recognition, comes great counterfeits. Below are some recommended things to look out for. Anello has updated its logo and materials over the years, so it can sometimes be challenging to distinguish counterfeit from older models.
- Look for consistency. Do all of the zippers and hardware fittings match and have the same color?
- Look at the tags. Does the item number line up with the design shown on the official Anello website?
- Look at the interior lining. Again, comparing to the Anello website, do the color schemes, and locations match what is showing online?
- Look at the rivets. Some authentic bags use rounded rivets, and others use flat rivets. With what you see on your bag, do they match what is seen on the Anello site?
- What’s the price? If the price is significantly below retail, it’s probably too good to be true.
- Look at the stitching. Is the stitching clean and hidden on the interior? If not, this could indicate a phony, especially if there are other telltale signs.
Are Anello Backpacks Waterproof?
‘Waterproof,’ no. ‘Water-resistant,’ yes! These backpacks can’t be submerged underwater without the contents getting wet. However, walking through the rain and other light amounts of water will be repelled by the canvas or leather.
History - About Anello
If you’re familiar with the Herschel Supply Company, think of Anello like the Japanese version. They were founded in 2005 and have grown quickly since. They’re massively popular in Japan and many other Asian countries.
Their bags and backpacks sit right alongside more prominent brands like Champion and Nike. If you’re visiting eastern Asia at any point, this is a souvenir you’ll want to pick up.
